Where the world's fastest runners come from

Compare elite-running geography by event, then switch the location model. National team is the official country represented; birthplace adjustment moves documented migration cases to their place of birth; family-origin adjustment moves only cases with explicit public evidence about parents or immediate family origin.

Rankings: World Athletics “Best by Athlete” all-time toplist, through 12 August 2026. Sprint lists use electronic times and legal wind; road lists use record-eligible course settings. Method: unique athletes by personal best. Origin modes are conservative: they only move an athlete when a public source explicitly documents a different birthplace or immediate family origin. An unchanged marker in an origin-adjusted view does not mean the athlete has local ancestry; it can simply mean no adjustment has been sourced. Split parental origins are shown as two smaller copies of the same rank and count as one athlete in the summaries.
